As a school, we strongly believe in the importance of educating children to an exceptionally high standard not just academically but in such a way that prepares them for making a positive contribution to modern Britain. Because of this, we give high priority to the personal, social and emotional development of pupils.
Children take part in weekly PSHE sessions which develop their personal and social skills well as equipping them with the skills and knowledge to live a healthy life. Our topics are:

In addition to this, we host an annual Futures Festival which develops our pupils’ understanding of the world of work and how they can make a positive contribution to society.
Our Sex and Relationships Education is embedded within our PSHE (Personal, Social, Health Education). The curriculum includes emotional, spiritual, moral, social and physical aspects of sex and health education. Our SRE gives pupils accurate, age-appropriate information and provides opportunities for them to develop life skills.
Annually, parents and carers are invited in to discuss the SRE their child(ren) will be taught that year. They are able to look at the resources that will be used and will be offered advice on how to discuss the topics taught with their children at home.
Our school rules are based on five key values. We teach our children these values to support their moral development and to prepare them for life in Modern Britain.

We manage behaviour positively and always seek to listen to our pupil’s views and understand their perspectives. To manage behaviour which breaks our rules, we use a system of stages. To reward positive behaviour, we use a variety of methods such as praise and communication with parents/carers.
We work closely with our pupils’ parents and carers to ensure they are kept fully informed about their child’s behaviour.
As well as supporting our children’s moral development through the teaching of our Golden Values, we also actively promote British Values and help our children develop their own understanding of what it means to be British.
Through our rich curriculum, children are presented with opportunities to explore democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and tolerance. One of the key ways we do this is through our Religious Education and Philosophy lessons where pupils tackle complex ideas to help them form their own opinions. Our School Council also helps children experience democracy in action.
Our assemblies are broadly Christian in theme. We have weekly whole school assemblies with our values as the focus. During these assemblies, a moral value is explored - often through a story and there is a moment of quite reflection where pupils are asked to bow their heads.
Our other daily assemblies are class based and focus on celebrating pupils’ achievements and giving pupils opportunities to reflect on our values; supporting them in developing an understanding of spiritual and moral issues.
Each term, we also hold performance assemblies where our pupils’ achievements are celebrated alongside musical and dance performances. Parents and carers are invited in to join in these celebrations.
Assemblies are generally led by members of staff but occasionally visitors and members of the local community, who share our values, are invited to present an assembly.
