Children across the school, from Reception to Year 6, have the incredible opportunity to develop their skills as budding artists. Each art lesson the children focus on particular skills within a discipline and are able to exercise their creativity within theses skill. Throughout the year the pupils explore a wide range of areas within the subject of art including painting, drawing, collage, printing, sculpture and textiles.
Children are encouraged to explore and experiment with a range of tools and materials and discover what they can do as an artist. From Reception pupils start to learn basic skills in areas across the art curriculum which are then developed throughout Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
An introduction to classic artists such as Picasso, Matisse, Monet and Van Gogh is an important part of the curriculum and gives pupils the chance to form opinions and engage in discussions based on artists work as well as take inspiration for their own artwork.
The Art Room is an exciting and engaging place for children to learn, be creative, develop their skills and talents and be inspired.
Van Gogh’s Starry Night
The children step inside a piece of artwork every time they enter the art room.
The windows are inspired by Van Gogh’s Starry Night. It’s as though our playground has a Starry Night hovering over it!
In Year 6 we have been learning about proportion! Did you know that we can use the head as a guideline to help us draw the rest of the body in proportion?
In Year 2 we learned how to apply Paper Mache! We enjoyed getting glue all over our hands to create our smooth structures. We can’t wait to turn these into planets!
