We provide a warm and welcoming environment where the children are taught in small groups by qualified nursery nurses under the direction of an experienced teacher. The School follows the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum and is in line with Coventry City Council’s policy for early years’ education. The implementation of this curriculum is rooted in the ethos of the School and the experience and beliefs of its staff.
The Foundation Stage
The curriculum guidance for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) covers seven areas of learning:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
- Understanding the World
- Creative Arts and Design
Children in nursery learn through play and are prepared well for starting school. All of the children become more independent and make lasting friendships with their peers and members of staff.
Children do not all learn in the same way or at the same rate, so we aim to provide learning experiences which take account of children’s individual needs and interests.
Times of a School Day
The children attend 5 morning and/or afternoon sessions. These are the times that apply to a nursery pupil’s school day.
- 08:45 ‐ 11:45: morning session
- 12:30 ‐ 15:30: afternoon session
- 08:45 ‐ 15:30: all day session
Morning/Afternoon Sessions Routine
Entry to the school for nursery sessions is via the gate in the school car park to the left of the school’s main entrance. Children are registered on entry to the classroom for either the morning or afternoon session (08:45 & 12:30 respectively). If you arrive later than 08:45 (for the morning session) or 12:30 (for the afternoon session) then please use the main school entrance.
Nursery Funding and Charges
All children aged 3 and 4 are eligible for 15-hours free childcare per week during term time, their eligibility commences from start of the term after their 3rd birthday
Children attending the nursery all day may be eligible to receive 30-hour free childcare per week during term time, which is subject to eligibility criteria set by the government, please visit Childcare Choices to obtain further information and apply for this funding.
Children who wish to attend the nursery all day but who are not eligible for the 30-hour funding, will be charged at a rate of £15.00 per additional nursery session (£5.00 per hour). You will be invoiced once a month.
If the school’s nursery is undersubscribed we may offer places to children as soon as they become three years old (rather than at the start of the term after their birthday).
This provision will be free of charge to you if your child is eligible to receive 2-year old funding. For more information regarding the eligibility criteria please visit Free Early Education and Childcare for 2, 3 and 4 year olds.
If your child is not eligible for the 2-year old funding we may offer your child a place which you will be required to pay for.

PE (Physical Education)
Pupils have a PE session on Wednesdays (morning and afternoon sessions).
Please ensure they are wearing comfortable clothing (leggings, jogging bottoms, etc – not tights please). We take off our shoes and socks so footwear that is easy to get on and off works best.
Occasionally we may ask the children to do some tasks at home to enhance their learning but these are not compulsory.
At our school we follow the ‘Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)’. To support our provision and planning for learning and development we follow the ‘Early years Foundation Stage Profile’ and we use ‘Early Years Outcomes’ to support our judgements.
Topics covered in nursery are broadly as follows:
- Autumn: Good to be me / Celebrations
- Spring: Winter world / Big big and bigger
- Summer: In the garden / Take off!
Children have access to water throughout the day so they do not need to bring water bottles. Children are also given a piece of fruit during their time at nursery therefore they do not need to bring any food to nursery.
