Spanish

At Willenhall Community Primary School, Spanish is taught as part of our broad and engaging curriculum for Key Stage 2 pupils. We use the Primary Languages Network scheme of work, which provides a carefully sequenced programme that builds pupils’ confidence and skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing in Spanish. Through lively lessons, songs, games and cultural links, pupils develop their vocabulary, pronunciation and understanding of grammar while also learning about Spanish-speaking countries and cultures.

The curriculum is designed to help pupils communicate in simple conversations, understand key phrases and express their ideas with increasing confidence as they move through the school. Learning a language also supports pupils’ wider communication skills and encourages curiosity about the wider world.
To enrich their learning further, Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to take part in an educational trip to Barcelona, where they can experience Spanish culture, language and landmarks first-hand. This provides a memorable and inspiring way to bring their language learning to life.
