Spanish

At Willenhall Community Primary School, Spanish is taught to help children in Key Stage 2 develop an interest in languages and an understanding of different cultures. Through fun and engaging activities, pupils learn Spanish words and phrases, helping them build confidence in speaking and listening.

Children are introduced to everyday vocabulary such as greetings, numbers, colours, animals, and food. Lessons often include songs, games, stories, and interactive activities to make learning enjoyable and memorable.

As pupils progress through the school, they begin to develop their pronunciation, listening skills, and understanding of simple sentences. They also learn about aspects of Spanish-speaking cultures to broaden their global awareness. This is enhanced by our Year 5 topic 'Coventry to Barcelona' where pupils really consolidate their learning of Spanish cultures.

To fully embed the learning of language, we give children the opportunity to apply their Spanish skills by visiting Spain in Year 6. Here, not only do they get to experience Spanish culture for themselves but they also have the opportunity to apply their language skills.
